Connection to Country is a set of two paintings, with the story flowing across both canvases and into each other.
These works show our special rocks at Nimbin and our journey around these places, watched over by one of our totems, the goanna, keeping our lore and stories protected and strong. This Aboriginal artwork reflects movement across Country and the protection of cultural knowledge through totem presence.
A meeting place is painted in the middle of one canvas to show our people listening to our stories, sharing our stories and all leaving with a love for Country. The journey lines in and around the meeting place are all connected, all flowing as one, showing shared movement, connection and respect.
This Indigenous Australian artwork reminds us that we need to stop, learn, respect and connect. Painted in black and white, the work was created out of respect for our old people and the spirit ways, grounding the piece in remembrance and cultural honour.
