Black Wattle Clapsticks are handcrafted from wattle wood, a tree with very special meaning and use for our people.

Black wattle, and wattle trees more broadly, hold cultural significance. The flowering of the wattle tree symbolises when to hunt certain animals, guiding seasonal movement and cultural practice. This deep connection to Country and seasonal knowledge is carried into each pair of clapsticks.

Wattle is a fast-growing tree, yet it is solid and strong, with amazing natural colours and grain running through the wood. Each pair of clapsticks produces a beautiful sound, with its own unique tone and resonance, making every set different.

These Aboriginal clapsticks have been finished with linseed oil to provide protection for the wood and to enhance the natural grain and colour. The result is a strong, resonant instrument grounded in cultural knowledge and respectful use of natural materials.
