Brolga Connection is a one-of-a-kind Aboriginal artwork created using pyrography, carefully burnt into kangaroo skin.
This skin shows the connection of our Brolgas, one of our totem animals. They represent true love, as they mate for life. In this piece, they are dancing in the sunset, signifying the change between day and night — a moment of balance, transition and unity.
They are watched over by our Mailyan, the Wedgetail Eagle, soaring above with wise knowledge and protection. The symbols at the bottom, with the U shapes, represent their spirits all sitting as equal — connected, grounded and together.
This contemporary Aboriginal artwork reflects Connection to Country, totem animals and cultural knowledge passed through generations on Bundjalung Country in Northern NSW. The use of traditional burning techniques honours both story and material.
