Singing to Our Songlines
$900.00
Singing to Our Songlines reminds us that we need to sing to our songlines like our old people did, even though many of us have forgotten.
When we stop and listen, we receive reminders from Country. As the black cockatoos fly by, they remind us to sing. If we sing to the land, the land will sing to us. We are part of nature and nature is part of us, so we need to sing up those songs of connection to remind Country that we care for her.
This Aboriginal artwork speaks to listening, remembering and reconnecting with cultural practices of song and respect for land, water and sky. It reminds us to sing to our rains, our waterways and to Country — and to know that when we do, Country sings back.
This painting was created on Country while sitting under a casuarina tree full of black cockatoos singing their songs, which then brought the rain. The rain is represented in this painting by the dots of water, grounding the work in lived experience, sound and seasonal change.
Inspired by Bundjalung Country in Northern NSW, this contemporary Indigenous Australian painting carries story, song and Connection to Country into your space.
