Whale Dreaming

Whale Dreaming reflects our deep connection to whales, who are the keepers of our knowledge and lore of the sea.

Our whales pass by our coastlines singing their songs, connecting us to their songlines across the ocean. This Aboriginal artwork shows our people sitting on the coastlines listening to the whales, while giving back in ceremony to show our respect and thanks as they keep the flow of our oceans moving.

This painting was created at one of our local headlands while watching the whales pass by. I sang to them and painted this piece out of respect, grounding the work in lived experience on Country and cultural connection to sea and story.

Through layered colour, flowing forms and symbolic pattern work, this Indigenous Australian artwork carries the rhythm of the ocean and the presence of whales moving along the coast. It speaks to listening, respect, reciprocity and the ongoing relationship between people and sea life.
